SMAX Cruise Control Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2012 Ford SMAX diesel's cruise control system stopped working, displaying an error message. The issue was suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection. Checking the fuse box was suggested as a potential solution, but ultimately, a workshop diagnosed and confirmed that a defective cable was the cause, which was repaired for 95€.

Thanks! I haven't checked the fuse box yet. Where is the relevant fuse and how do I identify it? Also, is there a way to test the actuator to confirm whether it is the problem?

Honestly, I'm not sure about the exact fuse location in your SMAX – check your owner's manual, it should have a diagram. As for testing the actuator, that's a bit beyond my skill level. With my Megane, I ended up just taking it to a workshop. They diagnosed it quickly and it saved me a lot of hassle.

I appreciate the advice! I will check the owner's manual for the fuse location, but I think I will also take it to a workshop for diagnosis and repair. Hopefully, it will not be too expensive. The workshop confirmed that a defective cable was the cause. The repair cost me 95€.

Hey, that sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane. The cruise control just died, and there was some generic error on the dash. Have you checked the fuse box? It might be a blown fuse related to the cruise control actuator.
