SMAX Gasoline Engine Misfires

Experiencing combustion misfires with my 2019 Ford S-MAX gasoline engine. Symptoms include rough running, check engine light, jerking during acceleration, and reduced power. The car has 30834 km. Diagnostics point towards a defective injector. Anyone else had similar problems?

I had similar issues with my S-MAX, though I can't remember the exact mileage. The symptoms you describe are familiar – rough idle, poor throttle response, and the check engine light. Did you check the ignition coils before suspecting the injectors? Sometimes, a faulty coil can mimic injector problems.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate the suggestion about the ignition coils. I did check them, and they seem to be functioning within acceptable parameters. Though I understand that testing under load might reveal issues I missed. Did your problem eventually turn out to be the injectors, and if so, what was the approximate cost to repair?

Indeed, in my case, the problem was a defective fuel injector. After further diagnostics confirmed the issue, I opted to replace all of them to ensure even fuel delivery across all cylinders. Given the potential for further complications, I strongly suggest visiting a certified workshop for a comprehensive inspection and repair, as fuel injection systems require specific tooling and expertise. The final repair bill was around 515€

Thanks again for sharing your experience. I took your advice and had the S-MAX inspected at a workshop. It turned out to be a faulty injector, just as suspected. The repair cost was also around 515€ as you mentioned. Your input was invaluable in guiding me towards the correct diagnosis and avoiding unnecessary troubleshooting steps.
