SMAX keyless entry fault

My 2006 Ford SMAX with a gasoline engine is playing up. The keyless entry has packed it in completely, and the car's throwing an error code. I'm guessing it's something electrical – maybe a dodgy wire or plug somewhere in the door handle? Anyone else had this gremlin?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Ford SMAX with a gasoline engine is experiencing a keyless entry fault, suspected to be electrical, possibly due to a faulty wire or plug in the door handle. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a fault in the door handle wiring. It is suggested to have a professional inspect and repair the wiring, especially if error codes are present, which was confirmed as the solution in this case.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my SMAX. Keyless stopped working, and it turned out to be a fault in the door handle wiring. Did you check the door mechanism already?

Wiring, eh? Right where the door bends, I suppose? Is it a big job to get to it, or am I better off leaving it to someone who knows what they're doing?

Yep, right in the door. You could try tracing the wiring yourself, but honestly, it can be a real pain. Might be worth getting a shop to take a look, especially if it's throwing error codes.

Took your advice and had it looked at. Turns out you nailed it – faulty wiring in the door handle. Cost me 95€ to fix, so not too bad. Thanks for the heads-up!
