SMAX Oil Level Sensor Error

I'm having a bother with my 2011 Ford SMAX, petrol engine. Getting an oil level sensor error, which is throwing up a message and warning light on the dash. The oil pressure warning lamp has also come on a few times. Error memory confirms a faulty oil level sensor signal. I've had a look at the wiring and plug, but nothing obviously amiss. Any thoughts?

Sounds familiar. Before condemning the sensor, have you checked the wiring all the way back? A break somewhere less obvious than the plug could cause this. Also, is the oil level actually okay when the light comes on?

Good shout. I've only had a quick look at the immediate wiring. I'll trace it further back tomorrow. And yes, the oil level is spot on when the light shows, which is why I'm leaning towards a sensor or wiring issue. Where does the sensor cable route to?

It usually runs along the chassis rail and up into the engine bay fuse box area. Given it's intermittent and the level is fine, a chafed wire seems most likely. Honestly, though, finding it can be a pain. Might be worth getting a workshop to diagnose properly before throwing parts at it.

Cheers for the advice. I've booked it into the workshop; turned out the cable was damaged. Repair came to 95€. Sorted now.
