SMAX Poor Engine Running Cold Starts
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Ford SMAX diesel is experiencing poor engine performance during cold starts, an error code, and increased fuel consumption. The issue may be related to the PTC heater, also known as the electric auxiliary heater. A similar case was resolved by inspecting and replacing the defective heater, suggesting that a workshop inspection could confirm and address the problem.

Thanks for the reply! The mechanic mentioned it as a possible cause. How did you confirm it was the PTC heater? Any specific tests?

No specific tests, however after inspection, they confirmed that the electric auxiliary heater was defective. It cost me around 350€ to fix. It might be best to get it checked at a workshop.

Thanks, I appreciate the information! I'll take it to the workshop and have them check the PTC heater thoroughly. I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Hello. I also own an SMAX diesel, and I had similar symptoms last winter. Cold air blowing when the engine was cold, eventually figured out it could be the electric auxiliary heater. Does your mechanic suspect that?
