SMAX Power Steering Issue

My 2022 Ford SMAX hybrid is giving me grief. The power steering is acting up big time. I'm getting a vibrating steering wheel, the handling feels spongy, and sometimes it feels like the power steering just cuts out completely. I scanned it and there's an error code stored. Mileage is at 92152 km. I read somewhere it could be a dodgy cable or plug. Has anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Ford SMAX hybrid experienced power steering issues, including a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and intermittent power steering failure. The problem was identified as a defective plug connection to the steering system. After repair, the vehicle's steering performance returned to normal.

I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although the symptoms weren't exactly the same. Are you experiencing any increased effort when steering?

Yeah, definitely! Sometimes it's a real struggle to turn the wheel, like the power steering has just given up. Was that similar to what you experienced with the Megane?

Affirmative, those were exactly the symptoms. It could be a faulty steering rack or even a damaged steering column. It's best to get it checked at a workshop. They can diagnose the problem precisely.

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was a defective plug connection to the steering system. They fixed it for 95€, and now it drives like new!
