SMAX Throttle Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Ford SMAX hybrid is experiencing worse fuel consumption and starting issues at 187,211 km, with diagnostics indicating a potential throttle valve problem, possibly linked to a faulty accelerator pedal module. Suggestions include checking for carbon buildup in the throttle body and considering the engine idle control valve as a potential issue. Cleaning the throttle body might offer temporary relief, but a thorough workshop inspection is recommended to confirm the throttle valve's condition and avoid future costs.

Thanks, the engine idle control valve is interesting. I hadn't thought about carbon buildup first. Did your control valve issue show up the same way, or were there other signs?

It was similar. Cleaning the throttle body helped for a bit, but the problem stayed. With your mileage and symptoms, get the throttle valve checked well at a workshop. Could save money later.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had the workshop check, and they said the throttle valve was bad and needed replacing. Cost 205€. Thanks again for the help; it really guided me.

I have an SMAX, and that sounds familiar. Higher fuel consumption and poor starting... could the engine idle control valve be failing? Have you checked the throttle body for carbon?
