Sonata Electrical Malfunctions

I'm having odd electrical issues with my 2011 Hyundai Sonata (Hybrid). Mileage is at 95438 km. I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, plus an error is stored in the error memory. The battery seems weak when starting, and I'm seeing some general electrical malfunctions. Could this be related to the auxiliary battery not charging properly?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is experiencing electrical malfunctions, including error messages and a weak battery during startup. These issues may be linked to the auxiliary battery not charging properly. It is suggested to measure the voltage at the battery terminals, both at rest and during engine start, to check for significant voltage drops. A failing auxiliary battery is identified as the cause, and replacing it resolves the problem.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my 2012 BMW 3 series. Error messages all over the place, battery draining quickly. Did you check for any significant voltage drop across the battery terminals while the engine is running? Or when starting the engine? Low voltage can trigger a cascade of errors in modern car electronics.

I haven't checked the voltage drop specifically. Where exactly should I measure, and what values would indicate a problem?

Measure directly at the auxiliary battery terminals, both at rest and during engine start. A healthy battery should maintain above 12V at rest, and ideally not drop below 10V during cranking. If you're seeing significant dips, it strongly suggests a charging issue or a failing battery. Considering all your symptoms, it is best to take it to a workshop. They should be able to diagnose a malfunctioning auxiliary battery.

Thanks for the advice. I had it checked out, and you were right – the auxiliary battery was the culprit. Repair cost came to 290€ Appreciate the insight!
