Sonata Hybrid Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is experiencing rough starts and weak performance, with a check engine light indicating a camshaft position sensor issue. The wiring appears intact, but a faulty connection could be the cause. A continuity test and inspection of the connector for corrosion or loose pins are recommended. The problem was resolved by cleaning a corroded connector, restoring the car's performance.

Continuity test? I just wiggled the wires and checked the plug. I don't have a multimeter. Could a dodgy connection make the engine feel weak, or is that something else?

A faulty connection could explain the reduced engine power. The camshaft position sensor data is critical for fuel injection and ignition timing. If the signal is erratic, the ECU may operate in a degraded mode. Given the symptoms and error code, I advise consulting a qualified technician. The repair cost is about 95€, potentially for a corroded terminal or damaged wiring, but professional diagnosis is essential.

Thanks! You were spot on. It was a corroded connector on the camshaft sensor. They cleaned it, and the car runs perfectly again. Bill was 95€ like you said. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my 2019 Audi A4. Prolonged cranking and a camshaft sensor error. Visual inspection of the wiring may not be enough. Have you done a continuity test on the wiring harness to the camshaft sensor and checked the plug connection? A connector can suffer from corrosion or a loose pin.
