Sonata knock sensor issue
Summary of the thread
The owner of a 2000 Hyundai Sonata is experiencing issues with the check engine light, increased fuel consumption, and uneven idling. Diagnostics indicate a defective knock sensor, and the owner suspects a bad connection in the cable or plug. A similar case suggests checking the wiring for corrosion or looseness, and if unresolved, replacing the sensor at a workshop.

Thanks for the info. I will check the plug and wiring. What exactly did you end up doing to fix it?

I tried cleaning the contacts, but it didn't solve the problem. I suggest visiting a workshop to have the sensor checked and replaced. It cost me about 95€.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to a workshop to get the knock sensor replaced. Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my Sonata. Same symptoms: check engine light, poor mileage, and rough idle. A knock sensor detects engine detonation, or 'knocking', and adjusts the ignition timing to prevent damage. I'd check the wiring first. Is the plug corroded or loose?
