Sonata Transmission Problems

I'm having trouble with my 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The automatic transmission is shifting strangely, the indicator light comes on and off, and sometimes it goes into emergency mode. It has 170652 kilometers. Could this be the transmission oil?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is experiencing transmission issues, including strange shifting, an intermittent indicator light, and emergency mode activation. Potential causes include low transmission oil or hydraulic fluid levels and low voltage affecting electronic controls. A suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked by a trusted workshop to diagnose and address these issues, possibly involving a transmission fluid flush and resolving any electrical problems.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had something similar happen in my Sonata. The symptoms sound really familiar – especially the weird shifting. I would describe it as slipping sometimes, and other times just refusing to go into gear correctly. Have you checked the hydraulic fluid levels? Low voltage can throw a wrench in a lot of systems in these cars, so it's a good idea to rule that out. How's the transmission performance otherwise?

Thank you for your insight. I haven't personally checked the hydraulic fluid levels. I'm not very experienced with car maintenance. You mentioned low voltage issues; could this really cause these kinds of transmission problems? What was the eventual fix for your Sonata?

Yeah, the low voltage was the culprit in my case. It messes with the electronic control of the transmission, leading to all sorts of weirdness. Considering all your symptoms, it's worth getting it checked ASAP! I'd advise taking it to a workshop you trust. For me, they flushed the transmission, replaced the worn-out fluid, and sorted out the electrical gremlins causing the undervoltage issue.

I appreciate the detailed explanation. Based on your experience, I will schedule an appointment with a reputable workshop to diagnose the potential undervoltage and address the transmission issues. It looks like the repair cost will be around 240€. Thank you again for your helpful advice!
