Summary of the thread
A 2012 Chevrolet Sonic diesel is experiencing a defrost air distribution flap issue, resulting in an error and low heating output. The suspected causes include a defective cable or plug connection. Thanks! Where exactly on the dashboard panel should I be looking for these connections? And how would I verify the heater core temperature?

It's behind the central console, you'll need to remove parts of the dashboard panel to access the climate control unit. As for the heater core, it's best left to a workshop with the right tools. Given the error code, it's probably best to get it diagnosed professionally. Could save you a lot of time and potentially prevent further damage.

Understood. Took it to the workshop; you were right. It was indeed a faulty connection on the air distribution flap. Cost me 95€ to repair. Thanks again!

I had a similar HVAC issue with my Sonic. Check the dashboard panel for loose connections. The air distribution relies on a complex system of flaps, and a faulty connection there can cause those symptoms. Is the heater core itself getting warm?
