Spare key exhibits same behaviour. Battery voltage is nominal. Is it likely the key needs reprogramming?

In my case, the Opel required reprogramming of the key. After several attempts to fix it myself, I brought it to a workshop, as I don't have the diagnostic tools. They confirmed the immobilizer fault and recoded the key. It might be best to seek professional help to avoid further complications.

I had similar issues with my Opel Astra, although it was a petrol engine. An immobilizer is basically an anti-theft system that uses a transponder in the key to communicate with the car's computer. If the signal is weak or corrupted, the engine won't start. Did you try the spare key? Also, have you checked the car battery's voltage? A low voltage can sometimes cause weird electronic issues.
