Spark erratic temperature display

I'm pulling my hair out! My 2011 Chevrolet Spark with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. I think I've got a cooling grille restriction. The temperature display is all over the place, showing wildly incorrect readings sometimes. The check engine light is on, and the engine is taking forever to warm up in the mornings. I suspect a defective fuse, but I’m not sure. Anyone else seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Chevrolet Spark was experiencing erratic temperature display readings, a persistent check engine light, and slow engine warm-up. The suspected causes included a cooling grille restriction and a defective fuse. A suggestion was made to check for a faulty thermostat, which could cause the cooling fan to run excessively and lead to incorrect temperature readings. Upon professional inspection, both a defective fuse and a faulty thermostat were identified and replaced, resolving the issue.

I had something similar happen with my Spark. Is the cooling fan running constantly, even when the engine is cold? It could be a faulty thermostat stuck in the open position, preventing the engine from reaching optimal temperature. That would also explain the weird temperature readings.

Good shout! The fan is running more than usual, I've noticed that. But wouldn't a faulty thermostat throw a different code? And could that cause the temperature display to act so erratically? It jumps around like it's possessed!

Yeah, it's a bit odd, I agree. My check engine light came on too, but the error code pointed towards the cooling system. Turns out, there was a small blockage and the thermostat was faulty. Honestly, at this point, I'd recommend getting it checked out by a professional to be sure. Save yourself the headache.

Took your advice and brought it in. You were spot on, kind of. Turns out a fuse was indeed defective and the thermostat was indeed faulty! New fuse and thermostat, and she's running like a champ again. Cost me 52€, but worth it for the peace of mind. Thanks for the help!
