Spark transmission error codes

Alright guys, need some help. My 2019 Chevy Spark with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. I can't get the darn thing to start. The check engine light is on, and it feels like the gearbox is slipping when I try to shift it (which isn't happening anyway since it won't start!). Plugged in a scanner and it's throwing some transmission error codes. I'm guessing it's something with the parking position sensor or something similar. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Chevy Spark is experiencing starting issues, with the check engine light on and transmission error codes indicating a potential problem with the parking position sensor or control unit. The gearbox feels like it's slipping, although the car won't start. A suggestion was made to check the shift lock solenoid, but the issue seems to be related to a defective control unit. It is advised to consult a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair, as the problem likely requires specialized tools and expertise.

Interesting. I had a somewhat similar experience with my Chevy Spark a while back. Mine wouldn't always recognize that it was in park, and that caused starting issues too. Have you checked the shift lock solenoid? Sometimes those can get stuck and prevent the car from starting. Does the gear shifter feel loose or unusually difficult to move? It could also be a faulty transmission sensor. Any other details you can provide might help narrow it down.

Thanks for the quick reply! The gear shifter feels normal, not loose or anything. And the error codes seem to point towards a faulty control unit which is linked to the parking position. I'm not sure how to get to the shift lock solenoid, is it easy to check?

Given that the error codes point towards a control unit and you're not experiencing any obvious mechanical issues with the shifter itself, I would strongly recommend taking it to a qualified mechanic. It sounds like the affected control unit might be defective, and that could require specialized tools and knowledge to diagnose and repair correctly. Messing with the shift lock solenoid without proper understanding could potentially cause further damage. Playing around with the transmission is dangerous territory without the right tools. Avoid the temptation to do this yourself. Be safe!

Appreciate the advice! You're right, probably best not to mess with it myself. Took it to the shop and they confirmed it's a defective control unit, just like we thought. Quoted me around 1000€ for the repair. Ouch! But at least I know what's wrong. Thanks again for your help!
