Spider rain light sensor fault

I've got a 1999 Renault Spider with a gasoline engine and I'm having issues with what I think is the rain-light sensor. The error memory is showing a fault, the automatic wipers aren't working, headlights won't switch on automatically, and even the speedometer dimming isn't functioning. It's weird, and the lights are always on. Anyone else experienced this?

I think I had something similar on my Spider. It sounds like a sensor calibration issue, but could also be electrical. When you say 'error memory', is that a generic OBD reader or something Renault specific? And does your Spider have the same windshield as original?

Thanks for the quick reply! The error was read with a generic OBD reader. I'm not sure about the windshield, to be honest. I bought the car used, how would I know if it's the original? And what do you mean by sensor calibration?

Okay, a generic reader might not give you the full picture. The windshield matters because there's a gel pad where the sensor sits, and bubbles can form under it, messing with the sensor. I'd advise getting a proper diagnostic at a workshop. If it's the gel pad, it can cause all sorts of weird issues with the light and rain sensor, and it’s best to have it professionally checked. A new sensor with calibration might be needed.

Thanks for the insight! I took it to the workshop as you suggested. Turns out, there were bubbles under the gel pad! They replaced the sensor and calibrated it. The total cost was 62€. Everything's working perfectly now!
