Spongy brake pedal on Seat Tarraco
Summary of the thread
The main issue was a spongy brake pedal on a 2023 Seat Tarraco, with low brake fluid levels and no visible leaks. The possible cause was identified as worn brake pads, which can lead to a drop in fluid levels as the fluid fills the space left by the worn material. The solution involved replacing the brake pads and refilling the brake fluid, which resolved the problem.

I haven't checked the pads recently to be honest. How would worn pads cause the brake fluid level to drop though? I thought it was a sealed system. And yes, the warning light is on now.

Right, the worn pads will lower the fluid. It's not 'dropping' as in leaking, but more like the fluid is filling the space left by the worn material. Seeing as the light is on, and you are not familiar with mechanics, get it checked out by a professional as soon as you can. It's not worth risking the brake system. It doesn't sound like a master cylinder issue, but I would check the pads.

I took the Tarraco to the shop, and you were spot on. The brake pads were completely shot. New pads and a fluid replacement later, and the brake pedal feels normal again. Cost me 480€ all in. Thanks for the help.

Low brake fluid is a common issue. When was the last time you checked your brake pads? Worn pads often cause the fluid level to drop. Also, is the brake system warning light on?
