Sprinter air suspension malfunction

My 2009 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine, currently at 20456 km, has an air suspension failure. It won't lift, leans noticeably, and shows an error on the speedometer. The low beam headlights are misaligned, with a warning light on. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. I'm expecting a repair cost around 95€. Has anyone else seen similar air suspension, load leveling, air leaks, or ride height issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Mercedes Sprinter experienced an air suspension malfunction, causing it not to lift and lean noticeably, with an error displayed on the speedometer. The initial suspicion was a defective cable or plug connection. Suggestions included checking for air leaks, inspecting ride height sensors, and examining wiring. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by repairing a corroded connector, restoring the air suspension and load leveling functions.

A complete air suspension failure on a Sprinter of that age isn't unusual. The leaning suggests uneven air distribution or a compressor problem. The error codes are key. Can you get the specific codes? That would help a lot. Thinking about wiring is smart, since that's possible. Before assuming the compressor is dead, have you checked the air lines for damage or listened for hissing, which could mean air leaks? Also, are you sure the ride height sensors are working? A bad sensor can send wrong info to the control module, causing problems. The headlight misalignment also suggests the load leveling is off. Let me know the error codes, and we can go from there.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'll try to get the error codes. I haven't closely inspected the air lines, but I didn't hear any hissing. How can I check if the ride height sensors are working right?

Checking the ride height sensors without equipment is tough. Look at them and their linkages for damage or disconnection. If you can, move the sensor arm with the ignition on (engine off) and listen for the compressor to start or stop. If nothing happens, the sensor or its wiring might be bad. Given the symptoms and no special tools, a qualified shop might be best. They can read codes, test the system, and find the air suspension issue, preventing more damage or wasted repairs.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, like you suggested. It was a corroded connector, just as I thought. The repair was about 95€. The air suspension and load leveling are working again.
