Sprinter Automatic Gearbox Electronic Issues

My 2005 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine has gearbox issues at 284002 km The paddle shifters are non-functional, the automatic gearbox slips and shifts erratically, and there are grinding noises during gear changes Paddle shifters are also slow to respond It's in emergency mode and showing errors related to the transmission control unit in the error memory Is a defective control module the likely culprit Has anyone encountered similar electronic issues with their automatic gearbox Repair cost is estimated at 1000€ Any insights before I commit to this

Sounds familiar I had similar transmission problems with my old Volvo, although it wasn't a Sprinter Symptoms were a bit different, but it also ended up being an issue with the control module Is it throwing any specific error codes That might help narrow it down Could be a sensor issue, but if it's in emergency mode, the control module is a likely candidate

I did pull the error codes, and they all point towards the transmission control unit I'm just a bit hesitant to drop a grand on a new control module without exploring all possible avenues Did your Volvo exhibit the same paddle shifter issue Just trying to confirm it's not something else entirely

My Volvo didn't have paddle shifters, so I can't comment on that specific symptom But with those error codes, it really does sound like a faulty control module It's possible it's a wiring issue, but that's less likely if multiple errors point to the module itself To be sure, I would still go to a workshop

I appreciate the advice It's what I suspected, but another opinion is always helpful before a costly repair I've decided to replace the transmission control unit It cost me 1000€ as predicted, but shifting is now smooth and the error codes are gone Thanks again
