Sprinter diesel engine issues resolved

My 2006 Mercedes Sprinter diesel has a check engine light and reduced power. Engine response is poor, sometimes stalls, and fuel consumption is high. I hear whistling and hissing when accelerating. Could this be the boost pressure system or wastegate valve? Maybe turbo lag or a pressure sensor issue?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my Sprinter, though I never checked the mileage. The check engine light plus the hissing noise are concerning. Have you checked the intercooler for leaks? A faulty boost control could cause all of this, but it's hard to say for sure without a proper diagnostic.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the intercooler yet. Where exactly should I look for leaks? And could a leak really cause all those problems like stalling and high fuel consumption?

The intercooler is usually in the front, you will see air pipes going into it. Check for cracks or loose connections. A leak can definitely cause those issues. If the system isn't holding pressure, the engine won't get the right air/fuel mixture, leading to stalling and poor fuel economy. You might want to visit a workshop and see what they say.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the wastegate valve. The repair cost 860€. Runs great now!
