Sprinter diesel engine stalling issue

My 2015 Mercedes Sprinter diesel has been throwing me for a loop. The check engine light popped on recently, and I've noticed the engine sometimes stalls when idling. I'm getting the feeling it might be related to the fuel tank ventilation system. I'm thinking it could be a defective activated charcoal filter. Has anyone else run into this? Would a faulty purge valve cause the same symptoms? Concerned about fuel efficiency too.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Sprinter. The check engine light was driving me nuts, and the stalling was super annoying. Is it hard to start sometimes too? For me it ended up being some kind of pressure sensor issue. Is the fuel cap on tight?

Thanks for the reply! No hard starts, fortunately. And yeah, fuel cap is on tight. When you say 'pressure sensor issue,' was it actually related to the fuel tank ventilation system, or something else entirely? Trying to narrow down the possibilities before I start throwing parts at it.

Okay, so mine was definitely related to the fuel tank. I'm no mechanic, but I think the pressure sensor was messing with the fuel mixture because of a leak somewhere in the system. My mechanic said it could also be the purge valve. Honestly, I'd take it to a workshop. They hooked it up to a diagnostic tool and figured it out pretty quick.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to a mechanic and you were spot on. Turns out it was a defective activated charcoal filter in the fuel tank ventilation system, just as I suspected. Replaced it and the stalling issue is gone, check engine light is off. Cost me about 275€ all in. Thanks for confirming my suspicions, saved me a lot of time!
