Sprinter diesel preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Mercedes Sprinter diesel is experiencing a persistent preheating lamp issue, suspected to be due to glow plug failure, accompanied by rough idle and engine misfire on startup. The check engine light is also illuminated. A similar case was resolved by replacing the glow plugs, which is a common solution for such symptoms. The expected repair cost for this issue is approximately 440€.

Yeah, it's definitely frustrating. When the engine is warm, the rough idle isn't quite as bad, but still noticeable. Did you have any engine misfire too? How did you solve the glow plug problem?

Okay, mine improved when warm too but the misfire was always there a little. Honestly, I just took it to a workshop. Glow plugs can be a pain to get to, and I didn't want to mess anything up further. They confirmed it was the glow plugs, replaced them, and the problem went away.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. Sounds like a trip to the workshop is inevitable. I'll get the glow plugs replaced. Just got a quote and you were right, they confirmed it was the glow plugs. The total cost was indeed around 440€. Thanks again for your help!

Whoa, sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Sprinter (diesel, too). The glow plug thing drove me nuts! Check engine light was on, and it felt like the whole van was shaking on startup. Did you notice any difference in how it runs when it's warm?
