Sprinter door lock issue

My 2012 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine is acting possessed The doors won't lock or unlock I'm thinking it's something to do with the door contact signal, maybe the wiring harness or a plug connection Could a dodgy door sensor be causing this electrical issue I'm worried it'll trigger the car alarm randomly Any ideas before I'm forced to sell a kidney to fix it

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Mercedes Sprinter had issues with the door locks not functioning properly, suspected to be due to a faulty door contact signal. Potential causes included a problematic wiring harness or a plug connection, possibly involving a dodgy door sensor. Suggestions included checking the wiring harness for breaks, particularly where it passes from the door to the body, and inspecting fuses related to the door locking mechanism. Ultimately, a mechanic confirmed the issue was a broken wire in the door wiring harness, which was repaired successfully.

Hmm, sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Volvo, though the symptoms weren't exactly the same. The central locking went haywire, and it turned out to be a corroded wiring harness connector near the door sensor. Have you checked the wiring harness where it passes from the door to the body That's a common spot for breaks. Also, does the Sprinter have separate fuses for each door's locking mechanism Just wondering if maybe a fuse blew. I'm not sure, but maybe it's worth checking it before anything else.

Thanks I'll check the wiring harness. Where exactly is the door sensor located And you mentioned fuses – is there a specific fuse box I should be looking at, or are they all in one place I'm pretty clueless when it comes to electrical stuff, so the more detail the better

On the Volvo, the sensor was integrated into the door latch mechanism itself, so you might need to pull the door panel to get a good look. As for the fuses, I'm not familiar with the Sprinter's layout. Your owner's manual should have a diagram. If you're uncomfortable poking around with the wiring, I'd honestly recommend taking it to a shop. These electrical issues can be tricky, and you don't want to accidentally short something out. It could be a simple fix, but it could also be a pain to diagnose without the right tools. If you go to the shop, they quoted me about 95€ for the repair.

Thanks again for the help Took your advice and brought it to a mechanic. Turns out it WAS a faulty contact signal, just like I suspected They found a broken wire in the door wiring harness and fixed it for a reasonable price. Crisis averted
