Sprinter fresh air blower issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Mercedes Sprinter is experiencing a non-functional fresh air blower, with an error code suggesting a defective blower motor. While the initial suspicion is a faulty blower motor, another possibility is a problem with the fan speed controller or corroded connections. It is recommended to inspect the wiring and connections for corrosion or damage before replacing the blower motor. Ultimately, a workshop visit is advised for a thorough diagnosis, and the blower motor was replaced, costing 365€.

Thanks for the quick reply. Where exactly is that resistor pack located? And how do I check the wiring? I'm not a total noob, but I don't want to mess anything up.

On the Astra, it was near the blower motor, usually in the air flow duct to keep it cool. Search online for the Sprinter's blower motor location and the resistor should be close. Visually inspect the connector and wires for corrosion or damage. Gently wiggle the connector while the blower is on to see if it comes on intermittently. But honestly, if there is an error stored in memory, you're likely looking at more than just a loose wire. A workshop visit might be your best bet.

Thanks again. I think I will take it to a workshop. The error code does make me think it's more than just a loose connection. They said they'd test the blower motor and the fan speed controller. It ended up costing 365€, including parts and labor. They replaced the blower motor as they suspected.

Had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. The air circulation just stopped. Turned out to be a corroded connector on the blower motor resistor pack which controls fan speed. If you are lucky its not the blower motor itself. Check the wiring and connections before you replace the entire unit. Might save some euros!
