Sprinter temperature and check engine light issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Mercedes Sprinter with a diesel engine is experiencing unusual temperature readings, a check engine light, and delayed warming up. The issue may be related to restricted airflow through the cooling grille or a radiator blockage. A similar problem was resolved by addressing a faulty fuse in the thermal management system, which affected the cooling fan's operation. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked by a workshop for diagnostics and repairs.

No, it doesn't feel like overheating, just taking longer to reach normal temperature. I haven't seen anything blocking the radiator, but I haven't looked super closely. What exactly was the issue with your van? Was it a complete radiator blockage?

Not a complete blockage, but definitely restricted airflow. Turned out to be a faulty fuse related to the thermal management system which caused the cooling fan not to operate correctly, so the engine never reached optimal temperature. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. They can run diagnostics and pinpoint the problem.

I appreciate the help. I'll take it in. It was a defective fuse. Cost me 52€ to replace. All good now.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Sprinter a while back. The thermal management system can be quite sensitive. Does it feel like the engine is running hotter than usual, even though the gauge might not be reading correctly? Have you checked for any obvious debris blocking the radiator?
