Thanks for the detailed explanation of the AC compressor repair. Your S4 situation sounds identical to my automotive cooling problems. Getting the full picture of the repair process is super helpful. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the entire job? Also curious if youve had any other AC unit issues since the repair was done? Trying to budget for this and want to make sure I address everything while the systems opened up.

After getting it fixed at the shop, the AC compressor failure was completely resolved. The car air conditioning system has been running flawlessly for over a year now with zero cooling system issues. The total cost came to 980 Euro for the air conditioning repair, which included replacing the defective control unit. Though it seemed steep at first, the comprehensive fix was worth every cent considering the complex nature of modern HVAC systems. The auto refrigerant system was thoroughly checked during the repair, and they found no additional problems. My advice would be to have them inspect all AC components while they have the system open, its more cost effective to address any potential issues during a single repair session rather than having to go back later. Make sure they perform a complete system pressure test after the repair. This confirms there are no leaks and ensures optimal cooling performance.

Thanks for the input. I took my SQ5 to a certified shop last week and the diagnosis matched exactly what was discussed here. The automotive cooling system needed a complete overhaul. The repair took about 5 hours and cost 1150 Euro. They replaced the AC compressor, fixed a minor refrigerant leak, and installed a new accumulator. The mechanic was transparent about the whole process and showed me the worn components. The air conditioning repair has solved all issues, the cooling is now working perfectly and no more warning lights. The shop also did a full system pressure test to ensure everything was properly sealed. What a relief to have proper cooling again. The car feels like new and Im glad I addressed this before summer. Would definitely recommend getting these AC unit problems fixed right away rather than waiting for complete system failure.

Had the same auto AC repair situation with my 2015 Audi S4 3.0 TFSI. The AC compressor failure symptoms matched exactly, no cooling, warning lights, and the AC unit issues prevented system engagement. The root cause was a failed electromagnetic clutch in the AC compressor assembly. When diagnosed, the auto refrigerant levels were also critically low due to a slow leak at the compressor shaft seal. The entire compressor needed replacement since individual components are not serviceable. This is considered a major vehicle HVAC repair as it requires: Full system evacuation, Compressor replacement, New accumulator/drier installation, Fresh refrigerant charge, System leak testing Labor intensive job taking 4-6 hours since the front end components need removal to access the compressor. Not a repair to attempt without proper diagnostic equipment and AC service certification. The high mileage likely contributed to the failure. Would recommend having the entire AC system inspected while its being serviced to prevent future issues with other components.
