SQ7 Fuel Pump Failure: Warning Signs & Solutions

Having serious fuel system issues with my 2020 SQ7 that point toward a potential fuel pump failure. Car shows multiple symptoms: wont start, stalls at idle, rough running, increased fuel consumption, and check engine light is on. Looking for insights from others who faced similar problems, particularly regarding gasoline delivery issues. Did your workshop confirm it was the fuel pump? What was the repair process and cost? Any specific automotive diagnosis steps that helped identify the problem? Want to be better informed before heading to the shop. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

As someone with low experience working on cars, I had a very similar issue with my 2018 Audi Q7 last year. The symptoms you describe match almost exactly what I experienced, especially the engine stalling and inconsistent gasoline delivery. My workshop found that the problem was actually simpler than expected, it turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the fuel pump, not a complete pump failure. The repair was relatively straightforward and cost 95 Euro for diagnostics and fixing the connection. The mechanics first performed a full fuel system diagnostic test to rule out more serious issues. The electronic error codes pointed them toward the connection problem rather than a failing pump unit. This saved quite a bit of money, as a full fuel pump replacement would have been much more expensive. Before proceeding with more specific advice, could you share: Have you had any recent work done on the fuel system? Does the problem occur more when the fuel tank is below a certain level? Are there any unusual sounds from the rear of the vehicle when turning the key? What error codes is the car showing? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different in the fuel system.

Thanks for the feedback. My fuel system issues started right after hitting 11097 KM. Hearing that connection problems can cause similar symptoms gives me hope its not a complete pump failure. No recent work done on the fuel system since the last service. The engine stalling happens regardless of fuel level, but I notice more rough running when tank is under quarter full. The diagnostic scan shows error code P0087 related to fuel rail pressure too low. No unusual sounds from the back. Let me get it properly checked at the workshop for accurate automotive diagnosis before jumping to conclusions about total pump replacement.

Thanks for those extra details. After my experience with similar symptoms on my Q7, I understand your concern. The P0087 code definitely points toward fuel delivery problems, but like in my case, it may not automatically mean a complete fuel pump failure. What helped narrow down my issue was the pattern of symptoms being worse with lower fuel levels. A proper automotive diagnosis revealed that in addition to the cable connection, there was also a partially clogged fuel filter affecting the fuel pressure. The combination of these issues caused inconsistent fuel delivery to the injectors. The total repair ended up including: Fuel system pressure test: 85 Euro, Filter replacement: 120 Euro, Cable connection repair: 95 Euro My suggestion would be to request a complete fuel system diagnostic test. This should include checking: Fuel pump pressure readings, All electrical connections, Fuel filter condition, Fuel injector operation This systematic approach helped identify the root cause without unnecessarily replacing the entire fuel pump. In my case, the auto repair shop found the issues within a day, and the car has run perfectly since the repair.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Just wanted to provide an update on my SQ7 fuel system issues. After taking the car to the workshop and having a comprehensive automotive diagnosis performed, they found both a failing fuel pump relay and a restricted fuel filter causing the inconsistent gasoline delivery. The total repair costs broke down to: Diagnostic testing: 110 Euro, Fuel pump relay: 85 Euro, Filter replacement: 130 Euro, Labor: 175 Euro Car performance is now back to normal, no more stalling, rough running, or check engine lights. The systematic testing approach definitely helped identify the exact problems without replacing parts unnecessarily. Really appreciate the suggestions about getting detailed fuel system tests done before assuming worst-case scenarios. Important lesson learned about the value of proper car performance diagnostics versus just replacing major components. Will definitely pay more attention to regular fuel system maintenance going forward.
