SQ7 Transmission Slipping & Park Fault Signals Major Repairs
Summary of the thread
The SQ7 is experiencing transmission issues, including rough shifting, slipping between gears, and a parking position fault. These symptoms are likely due to a faulty gear linkage mechanism and a compromised control unit in the automatic transmission. The suggested solution involves a complete diagnostic scan, replacement of the gear shifter assembly and control unit, a full transmission fluid flush, and recalibration of new components. Addressing these issues promptly is crucial to prevent further damage, and if under warranty, coverage should be pursued due to the known defect.

Thanks for sharing your S6 experience. Good to know Im not alone with these transmission issues. The symptoms sound identical, especially the parking position fault and gear shifter problems. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair with parts and labor? Also curious if youve had any transmission sensor issues or other problems since getting it fixed? Our SQ7 is still under extended warranty but Im trying to get an idea of costs in case they deny coverage due to mileage. The shift lock keeps engaging out of nowhere which is pretty concerning.

I ended up paying around 1000 Euro total for fixing the automatic transmission parking position fault. The main cost was replacing the defective control unit. The repair has held up perfectly, no more shift lock issues or transmission sensor problems in the 8 months since having it fixed. The repair cost was actually reasonable considering the complexity of modern transmission systems. The shop found the root cause quickly and didn't try selling unnecessary additional work. If youre still under warranty, definitely push for coverage since this is a known transmission failure pattern. The symptoms you describe with the unusual shift lock engagement match what I experienced before the repair. These electronic transmission issues typically stem from control unit problems rather than mechanical wear. My transmission now shifts smoothly and the parking position works flawlessly. No more struggling with getting it out of park or dealing with erratic gear changes. Well worth addressing before it potentially causes more extensive damage to the gear linkage system.

After getting multiple quotes, I finally took my SQ7 to a certified transmission specialist. The gear shifter was completely stuck and the shift lock kept engaging out of nowhere during the drive there. Pretty nerve-wracking experience. The diagnostic confirmed exactly what you described, faulty gear linkage and control unit issues. They had to keep the car for 3 days to complete all the repairs. The final bill came to 950 Euro which included: New control unit, Gear linkage assembly, System recalibration, Fresh transmission fluid The warranty covered most of it since they confirmed it was a known defect. Only had to pay 200 Euro out of pocket for some non-covered parts. The neutral position sensor is working properly now and no more problems getting out of park. Been driving it for about 2 weeks since the repair and the transmission is shifting perfectly smooth again. No more warning lights or parking position faults. Really glad I got it fixed before causing more damage.

Had the same transmission issues on my 2018 Audi S6. The symptoms matched exactly, rough shifting, transmission slipping and parking position fault codes. The root cause was a faulty gear linkage mechanism and a compromised control unit in the automatic transmission. This is actually a serious issue that requires professional attention since it affects core transmission functionality and safety systems. The transmission repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Removal and replacement of gear shifter assembly, Control unit replacement, Full transmission fluid flush, Recalibration of the new components Total repair time was 4 days at the shop. This is not a quick fix as accessing the transmission components requires significant disassembly. The transmission needs to be partially lowered to access the affected areas. Would strongly recommend having this addressed soon, as continuing to drive with these symptoms can cause permanent transmission damage. Make sure to get a detailed quote listing all parts and labor before authorizing repairs. The symptoms point to electronic/mechanical issues rather than just worn components. Also worth noting that in neutral position, you should still be able to start the engine. If not, this confirms the gear shifter mechanism is likely compromised.
