SQ8 Audio System Dead After Shop Visit, Zero Sound
Summary of the thread
The 2020 SQ8 experienced a complete audio system failure after a shop visit, resulting in no sound output from any source. The issue was likely caused by damage to the wiring harness, particularly around the auxiliary input, during recent shop work. The suggested solution involved checking the amplifier module, reconnecting loose wiring, and replacing damaged connectors. Ultimately, a complete wiring harness replacement with better shielding and a sound system firmware update resolved the problem, restoring perfect sound quality and stable Bluetooth connectivity.

Thanks for the detailed reply about the audio system failure. Had the exact same symptoms with my SQ8, the radio silence was driving me crazy. Got it fixed last month and your diagnosis about the amplifier module was spot on. Really curious what the repair cost was in your case? Mine needed a full wiring harness replacement due to some damaged USB audio connections, but wondering if I paid too much. Has everything been working properly since the fix, or did you notice any lingering sound quality issues? The shop mentioned potential sound distortion could return if the new wiring isnt properly shielded.

The repair costs came to 280 Euro in my case, mainly for replacing a defective Bass speaker which was causing the complete system shutdown. The volume control and sound quality have been perfect since the fix, no sound distortion or radio silence issues at all. My car speakers are working flawlessly now and the Bluetooth issue that was initially present has also been resolved. The audio system repair was much simpler than the full wiring harness replacement you needed. Looks like you had a more complex problem with those damaged USB connections. The technician explained that proper shielding is indeed crucial. Since having it repaired 6 months ago, my system has maintained crystal clear audio output. From what I understand, your repair might cost more due to the extensive wiring work, but it should prevent any future sound system failures if done correctly.

Just had my car back from the shop and wanted to update everyone. The total repair came to 850 Euro for the complete wiring harness replacement and labor. Pretty steep, but the sound quality is perfect now, way better than before actually. The mechanic showed me where the previous shop had damaged the auxiliary input connections while doing some unrelated work. They had completely crushed part of the wiring while reinstalling the trunk panels. The new harness includes better shielding, and they also updated the sound system firmware while they were at it. The car speakers are working perfectly now, clear sound, strong bass, no interference. Even the Bluetooth audio connectivity seems more stable than before. Definitely worth the investment to have it done right, even though it cost more than I initially hoped. Just glad to have music back in my daily drive. Will update if any issues pop up, but so far its been running great for the past couple weeks. Thanks for helping diagnose the problem, saved me from replacing the whole audio system, which is what the first shop suggested.

Had the same issue on my 2017 RS7 after hitting 150k KM. The complete sound system failure points to the amplifier module, which is a common failure point in these models. The volume control and auxiliary input worked fine mechanically, but there was no audio output whatsoever. This typically happens when the amplifier module fails or loses connection with the head unit. In my case, the recent shop work had disturbed the wiring harness connecting to the amplifier. The fix required: Testing the amplifier module, Reconnecting loose wiring, Replacing corroded connectors, Updating the sound system firmware If your recent shop work involved removing door panels or accessing areas near the trunk where the amplifier sits, theres a high chance they accidentally damaged the connections. Before replacing expensive components, have a qualified tech check the wiring harness and connections first. This is considered a serious electrical issue since it affects the entire audio system. Sound distortion or partial failures are more common than complete radio silence. Would recommend getting it diagnosed at a certified shop that specializes in automotive electronics.
