SQ8 Electronic Parking Brake Malfunction Alert

My 2023 SQ8 is having parking brake issues since yesterday. The electronic handbrake doesnt engage at all, and theres a warning light on the dash. The error is stored in the system memory according to my OBD reader. Has anyone experienced similar brake control problems with their SQ8? Vehicle safety is my main concern here, so Id appreciate info on what the repair process looked like and roughly how much it cost to fix. Really hoping its not a complete brake failure situation. Let me know if you need any additional details about the symptoms.

I had a similar issue with my 2021 Q7 last winter, the parking brake completely failed to engage and triggered warning lights. As someone with moderate experience working on cars, I initially tried resetting the system but quickly realized this was beyond basic troubleshooting. The problem turned out to be a faulty electric motor in the brake calliper, which is a critical component of the parking brake system. The system glitch was causing the brake control unit to malfunction, preventing proper engagement. The repair process involved: 1. Complete diagnostic scan 2. Replacement of the defective electric motor 3. Brake system recalibration 4. Testing of all parking brake functions Total cost was 505 Euro including parts and labor. While expensive, its essential for vehicle safety and not something to postpone. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Does the parking brake make any noise when you try to engage it? Are you able to manually release the brake switch? Have you noticed any other brake-related issues? What exact error code is your OBD reader showing? These details would help determine if youre dealing with the same issue I encountered.

Last service done at 51000 KM. Thanks for sharing your experience, I do hear a clicking sound when engaging the parking brake. The brake switch seems to work normally but nothing happens when activated. The OBD reader shows error code P1565. No other brake issues noticed so far. The electronic brake failure happened quite suddenly with no warning signs. From what you describe, it sounds like a similar issue. I will contact a certified shop to check the brake calliper motor.

Thanks for those additional details. Yes, that clicking sound with no engagement is exactly what I experienced with my Q7 before the repair. The P1565 code combined with the symptoms definitely points to the same electric motor failure in the brake calliper that I dealt with. The sudden brake fault without warning is typical for this issue, the electronic brake sensor usually doesnt give advance notice when the motor is about to fail. In my case, the brake failure happened while parking at night, which was quite unsettling. Since your vehicle has similar mileage to when mine failed, and considering its the same platform, Id strongly recommend getting it checked soon. The clicking noise suggests the brake control unit is attempting to engage, but the motor isnt responding correctly. Given the recent service history, this wouldnt have been caught during routine maintenance as the electronic parking brake usually only gets tested if theres a specific complaint. The repair process should be similar to what I went through, though prices might vary. Just make sure they do a full system recalibration after replacing the motor, this is crucial for proper brake sensor function. Would definitely prioritize this repair for vehicle safety reasons. Using just the regular brakes for parking isnt a long-term solution.

Thanks for all the helpful information. After hearing about your similar experience, I feel more confident about the repair needed. The clicking sound matches exactly what you described, and the error code being related to the brake calliper motor makes perfect sense. Since my vehicle safety systems are affected, I will schedule an appointment right away for the repair. Based on the cost you mentioned, I can at least budget properly for the fix. Its reassuring to know the parking brake issue is likely just the motor and not a complete brake control system failure. Just to close the loop, I called a shop and they can look at it tomorrow morning. I mentioned the brake sensor and calliper motor specifically, which helped them understand the urgency. For now, Im parking on level ground and using wheel chocks as an extra precaution until the electronic parking brake is repaired. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with such detail. It helped me understand exactly what Im dealing with.
