SQ8 Hood & Airbag Warning Due to Triggered Actuators

Looking for help with my 2021 SQ8 showing active hood and airbag warnings. The active hood system fault message keeps appearing on the display, and the airbag warning light stays on in the instrument cluster. The spring actuators for the pedestrian safety system have been triggered. Has anyone encountered this issue and had it fixed? Most interested in actual repair experiences and what your workshop found to be the root cause. Particularly concerned about potential safety system implications and whether this requires immediate attention.

As someone with moderate experience working on Audi vehicles, I encountered a similar issue with my 2019 S8. The car electronics were showing identical warning messages for the hood latch and airbag systems. The car sensor setup detected a fault in the collision detection system, specifically related to the acceleration sensor. These safety systems are interconnected, so when one component fails, it can trigger multiple warnings. My workshop diagnosed the issue using specialized diagnostic equipment. The faulty acceleration sensor was causing false triggers in the active hood system. Total repair cost was 315 Euro, which included sensor replacement and system recalibration. Given that these are critical car safety components, I would strongly recommend having this checked immediately. A malfunctioning system could either fail to deploy when needed or trigger unexpectedly. To provide more specific guidance, could you share: Has the active hood system physically deployed? Are there any error codes being displayed? Have you noticed any impact damage to the front of the vehicle? Did these warnings appear suddenly or gradually?

Thanks for sharing your repair experience. My SQ8 had its last service at 80000 KM and currently sits at 85280 KM. The active hood has physically deployed on both sides, with the system fault warnings appearing immediately after. The crash detection system seems to have triggered without any actual impact. The pedestrian safety system activation occurred while driving at normal speed on a smooth road, with no visible damage or prior warning signs. I believe getting this inspected is urgent given the multiple safety systems involved. Will have it checked by a certified workshop this week. Just to confirm, did your repair also include resetting the active hood mechanism after the sensor replacement? The crash detection system seems to be the core issue here too.

Thanks for the additional details. Yes, my repair included a complete system reset and recalibration after the sensor replacement. The similarities between our cases are striking, my S8 also had a spontaneous activation without impact while driving on a regular road. The crash detection system fault in my case required both the sensor replacement and a mechanical reset of the active hood mechanism. The pedestrian safety system needs proper recalibration to ensure reliable collision detection functioning. Since your car has deployed the hood mechanism, expect the repair cost to be higher than my case. The workshop will need to: 1. Replace the faulty sensor 2. Reset and realign the active hood components 3. Recalibrate the entire safety system 4. Clear all system fault codes Given the mileage you mentioned, this issue is not wear-related but rather points to a sensor system malfunction. The spontaneous trigger while driving indicates a potential short circuit or sensor calibration drift in the collision detection module. For reference, after the repair, my system fault warnings cleared completely and the airbag warning light turned off. The active hood system has been functioning correctly since, with no false triggers or safety system warnings.

Thank you for the detailed repair information. After checking the workshop schedule, I managed to get an appointment for tomorrow morning. My mileage situation does sound similar to your case, though the concurrent airbag warning definitely adds urgency to the repair needs. The impact sensor malfunction causing a false trigger matches what I suspected, especially since the pedestrian safety system activated during normal driving conditions. The car electronics seem to be reading phantom collision signals, which explains the multiple system warnings. I appreciate the breakdown of the required repair steps. Will make sure the workshop performs a complete system recalibration along with the sensor replacement. The crash detection system needs to be fully functional for proper car safety, so I want everything properly reset and tested. Given your repair experience and successful resolution, I feel more confident about getting this fixed. Will update once the workshop completes the diagnosis and repair. The main concern is preventing any future false triggers while ensuring all safety systems remain fully operational.
