Stagea refusing to start
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Nissan Stagea is experiencing starting issues, where the engine briefly fires up before dying. The problem is suspected to be related to the immobilizer system, possibly due to a key programming issue. The security light on the dashboard is flashing, indicating a potential problem with the anti-theft system. The suggested solution is to visit a workshop for key reprogramming, which successfully resolves the issue.

Good shout on the security light! Yes, it's blinking like crazy. So, if it's the transponder, is there anything I can do myself, or am I looking at a trip to the workshop? Is there a specific procedure to test the key?

Given that the security light is flashing and the engine cuts out immediately, it does sound like the immobilizer isn't recognizing the key. Unfortunately, key programming is usually beyond what you can do yourself. The security systems are designed to prevent exactly that. I recommend a workshop with the appropriate diagnostic tools. You might need a new key or have the existing one reprogrammed.

Thanks a bunch for confirming my suspicions! A quick trip to the workshop and 45€ later for key programming, and she's purring like a kitten again. Spot on with the diagnosis!

I have a Stagea too, although I couldn't tell you the exact year right now, and I had similar symptoms. Have you checked the security light on the dashboard? In my case, it was flashing rapidly, which, if I recall correctly, indicates a problem with the anti-theft system. Could it be a faulty transponder in the key?
