Starting difficulties and warning light on Mercedes SLC 2018: suspected defective water sensor

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of stress with my 2018 Mercedes SLC. It runs on gasoline and already has 60,040 km on the clock. The thing won't start, turns the engine off on its own and even has a warning light in the speedometer! Last time at the mechanic was no fun and I think it could be the water sensor. Have any of you had similar problems and can tell me how it went at the mechanic? I'm grateful for any help!

Hi, I understand your problem because I experienced something similar with my 2015 Mercedes E-Class. The symptoms were identical: engine not starting properly, stalling and then that damn warning light. After hours in the garage, it turned out that the cable connection to the sensor was faulty. This was actually a serious matter, because the sensor was sending incorrect information to the control unit and thus messing up the whole system. The guys in the workshop had to repair the cable connection and that took some time. But since then I haven't had any more problems, so it could also be the sensor. I hope this helps you.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! It does sound like I might have a similar problem. Do you happen to remember how expensive the repair was for the cable connection? And has anything else come up with your Mercedes since then that you've had to fix? I would really appreciate further feedback from you!

Hello again! Sure, no problem, I remember exactly. It cost me €365 to repair the cable connection. It may sound like a lot, but since then everything has been working perfectly again. The warning light has also disappeared. It was particularly nice to realize that the malfunction of the water sensor had been rectified. That had really annoyed me! So far, nothing else has come up that I would have had to fix. My Mercedes is purring like a kitten again! I hope that reassures you a little. Everything will be fine!

Thank you, you're a lifesaver! Now I know what I have to do and what to expect. It really gives me a bit of peace of mind. I also find the amount acceptable once I have peace of mind and the Mercedes is running properly again. It's good to hear that everything has been running smoothly for you since then. I'll let you know when I get back from the mechanic and can let you know if it really was the same problem. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon. See you then and have a good run with your Mercedes!
