Starting difficulties and weak battery in Opel Antara from 2007 - advice wanted on how to deal with the workshop

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2007 Opel Antara with a gasoline engine and 141171 km on the clock. The engine is difficult to start, the battery seems to be weak and the lights are dark or flickering. Could there be a fault in the engine control unit? Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me a tip on how to deal with the garage? I was not so happy last time... Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Opel Antara is experiencing starting difficulties, a weak battery, and flickering lights. The initial concern is a potential fault in the engine control unit. However, a similar case with an Opel Mokka suggested that defective glow plugs could be the cause. Replacing the glow plugs resolved the issue, eliminating the suspected engine control unit fault, and is recommended as a solution.

Hello, I had similar problems with my Opel Mokka from 2010. It turned out that the glow plugs were defective and worn out. The symptoms were almost the same, engine difficult to start and flickering lights. However, there was no fault in the engine control unit. The glow plugs were then replaced in the workshop and everything has been running fine ever since. This was not a major problem, but it should still be rectified promptly in the workshop. Have a look at your glow plugs, maybe that's where the problem lies. Have a good trip!

Hey, thanks for the tip about the glow plugs, I'll really have that checked. Do you remember roughly what you left in the workshop when you replaced it? And has anything else similar occurred since then, or has your car been running without any problems?

Hey, great that you want to have this checked! In my case, replacing the defective and worn glow plugs cost €560. Since then, no similar malfunction has occurred, my car runs perfectly. And what's really cool is that the fault in the engine control unit, which we had previously suspected, also disappeared afterwards. So really positive, I can only recommend checking it out. Have a safe journey!

Many thanks for your help and advice. 560 may sound quite expensive, but if it really does solve all the problems, it's definitely worth it. I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any more problems. I'll follow your tips and have everything checked out. It's great that you shared your experience with me, it really helped me. Happy driving and thanks again!
