Stelvio Audio System Failure: Antenna Issues Suspected

My 2017 Stelvio diesel has a complete audio system failure along with infotainment error messages. The diagnostics shows stored errors related to the audio system. I suspect it might be related to radio signal strength or antenna issues since the problem affects the entire entertainment unit. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and found a fix? Particularly interested in confirmed workshop solutions and whether this was related to a signal amplifier problem or antenna ground connection. Would be helpful to know if this requires just an electronic reset or if hardware components needed replacement.

As someone with moderate experience working on similar issues, I dealt with this exact problem on my 2015 Alfa Romeo Giulia diesel. The symptoms were identical, complete audio failure and infotainment errors. After multiple static noise issues and radio interference problems, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a faulty antenna ground connection. The car radio would sometimes work intermittently, but the FM signal was extremely poor when it did. The technicians found that the antenna base had corroded, affecting both the ground connection and signal amplifier. They replaced the entire antenna assembly and performed a system reset. Total cost was 255 Euro, but it completely resolved the issue. To help diagnose your case more precisely, could you share: Does the radio work occasionally or is it completely dead? Are you getting any specific error codes? Did the problem start suddenly or develop gradually? Have you noticed any correlation with weather conditions? The Stelvio shares many electrical components with other Alfa models from that period, so the fix might be similar, but those details would help confirm if your issue matches what I experienced.

Had my last service at 69462 KM. Based on my experience with this annoying issue, I can confirm the antenna ground connection was indeed the culprit. After replacing the signal amplifier and ground wire assembly, all audio functions returned to normal. The main FM signal indicator now shows full strength, and the infotainment system operates without any error messages. The repair definitely fixed both the car radio interference and static noise problems. The total repair cost for my Stelvio came to 380 Euro, which included diagnostic work and parts. The system has worked flawlessly since the fix, with no sign of the original issues returning.

Thanks for sharing those details. Glad you got it resolved. Your repair costs were a bit higher than mine, but that makes sense given the additional diagnostic work required. The signal amplifier and ground wire replacement is indeed the correct fix for these vehicle electronics issues. After dealing with similar problems in my Giulia, I learned these components are prone to corrosion in this model series, affecting both radio reception and overall infotainment functionality. Since the repair, have you noticed any improvement in general audio quality beyond just fixing the static noise? In my case, the new signal amplifier actually provided better FM reception than I had even before the problems started. One tip based on my experience: keeping the antenna base area clean and checking the ground connection during regular service intervals can help prevent these issues from recurring. The signal strength tends to deteriorate gradually if maintenance is neglected.

After running the car for several thousand kilometers since the repair, I can definitely report improved performance across all audio functions. The FM signal strength is noticeably better than it ever was, even when the car was new. The static noise is completely gone and the car radio picks up stations clearly now, even in areas where reception was previously spotty. The service tech mentioned the new signal amplifier they installed is an upgraded version compared to the original part, which explains the enhanced performance. I appreciate the maintenance tip about keeping the antenna base clean. I have added this to my routine checks, along with having the antenna ground connection inspected during regular services. The workshop also applied a protective coating to prevent future corrosion issues. For anyone else facing similar problems, the repair cost of 380 Euro was definitely worth it given the complete resolution of all audio and infotainment issues. The difference in signal strength and audio clarity is remarkable, and having a fully functional entertainment system makes every drive more enjoyable.
