Stepwgn Gearbox Slipping
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Honda Stepwgn hybrid is experiencing issues with unresponsive paddle shifters, a slipping gearbox, grinding noises, and an error indicating the gearbox is in emergency mode. The problem is likely due to a faulty transmission control unit (TCU). It is advised to have the TCU replaced by a qualified workshop due to the complexity of hybrid systems, which resolved the issue and restored smooth operation.

No recent work, and no electrical issues that I know of. Is replacing the TCU something I could tackle myself, or am I looking at a workshop job?

Based on your description and the error codes, I am quite confident that the transmission control unit is defective. Given the complexity of hybrid systems and the need for specialized diagnostic tools, I strongly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop. Incorrect programming or installation can lead to further damage.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. Just got it back from the shop – you were spot on. The control unit was knackered. Cost me about 1000€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again.

Sounds like a transmission control unit issue. Given the symptoms and the error code, it's highly likely the TCU is faulty. Has the car had any recent work done on the transmission, or any electrical issues beforehand?
