Stilo Alarm System Faulty Coding

I've got a 2006 Fiat Stilo diesel and the anti-theft alarm is playing up. There's an error stored and the alarm isn't working. I think it might be wrongly coded for optical locking. Mileage is 42876 km.

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Fiat Stilo diesel had a malfunctioning anti-theft alarm, suspected to be due to incorrect coding for optical locking. The issue was confirmed by a workshop, where the alarm control unit was reprogrammed, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, that sounds like a headache! Electrical gremlins are the WORST. Is your battery in good shape? Sometimes a weak battery can cause all sorts of weird issues with the alarm and immobilizer. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a bit to see if it resets anything?

Battery should be okay. What would disconnecting it do? Could this be just the alarm control module, or something else?

Disconnecting the battery sometimes clears out any weird temporary glitches in the car's computer. It's like a hard reset for your alarm system. But honestly, with that error code and the alarm not working, it really sounds like you should take it to a workshop. They can hook it up to a proper diagnostic tool and see exactly what's going on with the alarm control. It's probably the coding thing you mentioned, but better safe than sorry!

Took it to a workshop as suggested. The alarm system was coded for optical locking, like I thought. Reprogramming the alarm control unit fixed it. Cost 45€.
