Stilo Crankshaft Camshaft Error

My 2002 Fiat Stilo, gasoline engine, has about 177834 km. The check engine light came on, and I've noticed less power, poor engine response, and more fuel consumption. Scans show a 'Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value' error. I'm thinking it's a bad crankshaft sensor. Any ideas?

Hey, I had something similar with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms. It was a faulty crank sensor messing with the engine timing. Have you checked the wiring to the sensor?

Thanks. I looked at the wiring, and it seems okay, but I don't have the tools to test it. Could a bad camshaft sensor also cause this, or is the crankshaft sensor more likely?

For me, it was definitely the crank sensor, but a cam sensor could cause similar stuff. With that error code, I'd guess crankshaft sensor. Best to have it checked professionally to be sure.
