Stilo Diesel Stalling After Fuel Filter Change
Summary of the thread
After changing the fuel filter on a 2005 Fiat Stilo diesel, the engine began stalling at idle, the check engine light turned on, and there was a noticeable drop in power. The issue was suspected to be related to the fuel pressure regulator, possibly due to using a non-original filter and improper priming. A workshop confirmed the defective fuel pressure regulator, replaced it, and resolved the problem, highlighting the importance of using original parts.

I used a supposedly compatible filter, but not an original Fiat part. I thought I primed it right – turned the key to 'on' a few times before starting. Could that be it? What fixed your issue?

Aftermarket filters can cause issues, especially with pressure regulation. Turning the key might not fully prime the system. Get it checked at a workshop; they have the tools to diagnose the fuel system. In my case, the error entry after changing the fuel filter was the cause.

I took it to the workshop, and you were right. The fuel pressure regulator was defective. They replaced it for 45€, and the car runs great again. I will only use original parts from now on!

I had similar issues with my Stilo. Stalling, check engine light... Sounds familiar. Was it a generic fuel filter, or a Fiat-specific one? Did you prime the system after changing it?
