Stilo engine misfires

Hi, I'm having some issues with my 2001 Fiat Stilo, gasoline engine. It's got about 150k km on it. Recently, the engine's been running really rough, and the check engine light keeps popping on. When I accelerate, it feels like the car is jerking, and I've definitely noticed a drop in engine power. I ran a scan, and it's showing combustion misfires. I'm suspecting it might be a defective injection valve or injector. Anyone else experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Fiat Stilo with approximately 150,000 km is experiencing rough engine performance, a check engine light, jerking during acceleration, and reduced power, with a scan indicating combustion misfires. The suspected causes include defective injection valves or injectors, with a suggestion to also check the ignition coils, as they can commonly cause misfires. After further diagnostics at a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be defective fuel injectors on cylinders 3 and 4, which were repaired, resolving the problem.

I had something similar happen on my Stilo. Engine misfiring can cause those symptoms. Check the ignition coils, those can go bad and cause cylinder misfires, leading to rough running and reduced power. Also, throttle response might feel off. Does the error message point to a specific cylinder?

Thanks for the quick response! The error message does indicate misfires on cylinder 3 and 4. Regarding the ignition coils, is there a reliable way to test them before I just start replacing parts? Also, could a faulty injector also cause similar issues, or do you think it is more likely the coils?

Given it's cylinder 3 and 4, it's certainly worth checking the coils first as it is fairly common. A faulty injector can definitely cause misfires too. But diagnosing that properly requires tools and expertise. If you're not experienced with that, taking it to a workshop for proper diagnosis is recommended.

Took it to the workshop as suggested, and you were spot on. The diagnostics confirmed defective fuel injectors on cylinders 3 and 4. Repair ended up costing me 515€, but the engine is running smoothly now. Thanks for your help!
