Stilo Gearbox Emergency Mode
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Fiat Stilo is experiencing gearbox issues, with a warning light indicating emergency mode and rough shifting. The problem is linked to a fault code related to the transmission oil pressure sensor. A suggested solution is to check the gearbox oil level, as low oil can trigger the sensor and cause these symptoms. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by addressing low oil and a faulty sensor, confirming the initial diagnosis.

Where exactly do I check the gearbox oil level on the Stilo? Is it easy to get to, or am I better off just taking it to a mechanic?

Honestly, getting to it can be a pain, especially if you're not super confident. Given the slipping and emergency mode, it's probably best to get a mechanic to take a peek. Could be more than just low oil.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and it was indeed low oil and a faulty sensor. Cost me 365€, but at least it's sorted. Thanks for the help!

I had similar issues with my Stilo. Check your gearbox oil level ASAP. A low level can definitely trigger the sensor and cause those exact symptoms. It's an easy check, and could save you a fortune!
