Stream intake hose leak

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2007 Honda Stream (gasoline engine) with 95684 km. I've observed higher fuel consumption, the check engine light, and a loud hissing sound upon acceleration, suggesting an air intake system leak. Preliminary inspection points towards a potential leak in the intake hose. Any insights or recommendations?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Honda Stream owner reported higher fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound upon acceleration, indicating a potential air intake system leak. The issue was suspected to be a leak in the intake hose, possibly due to age-related brittleness. A smoke test at a workshop confirmed the intake hose leak, which was then replaced, resolving the symptoms.

Hissing + check engine light? Sounds like a vacuum leak, alright! Is the hissing constant, or does it change with engine speed? Have you tried checking around the throttle body or intake manifold for any obvious cracks or loose connections? A leak there could cause those symptoms.

The hissing sound becomes more pronounced with increased engine RPM. I did a visual inspection, paying close attention to the intake hose, but it's difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the leak. Could a malfunctioning PCV valve also contribute to these symptoms, or is the intake hose the more probable culprit?

A PCV valve could maybe cause some weirdness, but the hissing getting louder with RPM really points to a leak in the intake system. I'd bet money on that intake hose – they get brittle with age. Honestly, with those symptoms, you're probably best off taking it to a workshop. They can do a smoke test to find the leak super fast.

Based on your recommendation, I had a smoke test performed at a local workshop, and it indeed confirmed a leak in the intake hose. The hose was replaced, and the total repair cost was 100€. The symptoms have now resolved. Thanks again for your assistance!
