Stuck Cadillac Fuel Door Causes Fill-up Nightmare

Thanks for the detailed response. Most recently serviced at 145882 KM with all new fluids. When pressing the release button, there is a faint click, but the fuel door stays firmly locked. The key fob works perfectly for all other functions like doors and trunk. The error code reader shows P1653, which points to the fuel door circuit. No other electrical problems noted. My main concern is getting back on the road quickly since I am running low on fuel. From your experience with the actuator replacement, would you say this is something that needs a dealer visit, or could an independent shop handle the repair?

Thanks for those additional details. The P1653 code and that faint clicking sound match exactly what I experienced with my Cadillac before getting it fixed. Since the key fob works fine for other functions and the error code specifically points to the fuel door circuit, this further confirms its likely the electric actuator or its wiring. The clicking suggests the release mechanism is trying to work but failing. I had my repair done at an independent shop without any issues. The electric actuator replacement is a fairly straightforward job for any competent mechanic familiar with these models. A dealer visit isnt necessary unless you specifically want OEM parts. Regarding your immediate need to get back on the road: My mechanic was able to manually trigger the release mechanism to access the fuel filler while waiting for parts. This might be worth asking about as a temporary solution until the repair can be completed. Based on my similar electrical fault experience, I would expect comparable repair costs to what I paid (around 210€), assuming the same components need replacement. Just make sure whichever shop you choose has experience with electrical systems, as proper diagnosis of the actuator circuit is key to avoiding unnecessary parts replacement.

Really appreciate the helpful info, especially about the independent shop option. That clicking sound being the same as your experience makes me feel better about the diagnosis. Will contact a local shop tomorrow about both the temporary manual release and getting the lock actuator replaced. The 210€ cost estimate helps with planning too, much better than not knowing what to expect. Good to hear the electric actuator replacement isnt necessarily a dealer-only job. Planning to get this sorted within the week while I still have enough fuel to get around. Will make sure to ask about their experience with electrical systems when I call. The fact that this is a known issue with a clear fix path is reassuring. Thanks again for sharing your repair experience, its been really helpful in figuring out my next steps.

Having dealt with a similar fuel flap issue on my 2007 Cadillac CTS, I can share my repair experience. The lock actuator in my case was completely dead, like yours. After checking the fuse and getting error codes, the release button also stopped responding completely. The problem turned out to be a broken linkage inside the fuel door mechanism. The repair involved: Complete removal of the fuel filler assembly, Replacement of the lock actuator unit, Installation of new linkage components Total repair cost was 210€ at my local workshop, including parts and labor. The job took about 2 hours to complete. Before suggesting specific fixes, have you noticed any clicking sounds when pressing the release button? Does the key fob work for other functions? Are there any other electrical issues with the car? Which error codes are you getting specifically? The symptoms sound very similar, but having this additional information would help confirm if your issue matches what I experienced with my CTS.
