Thanks for sharing your WRX repair story. My experience sounds pretty identical, same warning lights and brake failure symptoms. The shop is suggesting a full caliper motor replacement too. Before I go ahead with the repair, curious what the final cost was for your fix? Also wondering if youve had any other electronic brake issues pop up since the repair? Its helpful to know if this tends to be a one-time fix or if I should watch out for recurring brake control problems.

Just following up on the brake repair cost question. The total came to 505€ for fixing the electronic parking brake malfunction on my WRX. The main expense was replacing the defective electric motor in the brake caliper. Since getting the repair done three months ago, the electronic brake system has worked flawlessly. No warning lights or brake faults have returned. The shop did a thorough job testing the brake control module and recalibrating everything after installing the new parts. Based on my experience, once the faulty components are properly replaced, the vehicle safety and brake function returns to normal. While electronic parking brake repairs can be costly, they tend to be a solid long-term fix rather than a recurring issue. If your symptoms match what I experienced, the repair quote sounds reasonable for the work involved. Just ensure they fully test the system afterward to confirm proper brake operation.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights. Wanted to share how my repair turned out. Took it to a certified shop last week who confirmed the electronic parking brake motor had failed. The total repair came to 480€ which included replacing both rear caliper motors and recalibrating the brake control module. The mechanic showed me the old motor which was heavily corroded from moisture exposure. They mentioned this is a common parking brake failure point on these models. The repair process took about 4 hours total. Happy to report the warning light is now gone and the electronic brake system works perfectly again. The shop did extensive testing to ensure proper brake function before releasing the car. While it was an expensive fix, the peace of mind knowing the parking brake is working safely again was worth it. Will definitely be more proactive about brake system maintenance going forward to prevent another failure.

Recently fixed a similar brake control issue on my 2016 Subaru WRX. The electronic parking brake warning came up along with a system fault notification. The main problem was traced to a faulty brake switch in the caliper motor assembly. When the electronic parking brake fails, its typically due to either the brake sensor or the electric motor in the caliper being defective. The motor controls the clamping force of the parking brake. In my case, the caliper motor had seized due to corrosion and needed complete replacement. This was a serious repair since a failed parking brake is a safety concern. The brake control module also required recalibration after the new parts were installed. The repair involved: Diagnostic scan of the brake system, Removal of rear brake calipers, Replacement of electronic parking brake motors, System recalibration, Full brake function testing While this repair requires specialized tools and knowledge, its fairly common on these models. The electronic parking brake should be serviced regularly to prevent moisture damage to the motors and sensors. Would recommend getting a second opinion from a shop familiar with Subaru electronic brake systems. The warning light indicates an active fault that needs addressing for safe operation.
