Subaru R2 Nav System Dead, Multiple ECU Errors Found

Having trouble with my 2010 Subaru R2. The navigation system is completely dead and the onboard diagnostics show multiple electrical errors in the system memory. Seems like a potential software issue rather than hardware failure since several systems are affected at once. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and got them resolved? Particularly interested in whether a software update or control unit recalibration fixed the problem, and what the repair process looked like at your workshop. Any firsthand experiences would be helpful before I take it in for repairs.

Having some experience with car electronics, I faced a very similar issue with my 2012 Subaru R4. The ECU problems started showing up with multiple system failures and error codes, just like yours. After diagnosing the vehicle software issues, my workshop found that the control unit was suffering from a software malfunction. The solution involved a complete software reset and reprogramming of the ECU. The entire process took about 3 hours and cost me 240€. The software bug was causing communication issues between different modules, which explains why multiple systems were affected simultaneously. The workshop explained that these electronic glitches are relatively common in this series of vehicles. To better assist with your specific case, could you provide: current mileage, any recent battery issues or replacements, list of specific error codes showing up, whether the issues started suddenly or gradually, if any recent electrical work was done on the car. This information would help determine if your problem matches the software reset solution that worked for my vehicle.

Latest service was done last month at 56389 KM. The battery was replaced 2 years ago and has been working fine. The error codes are P0607 and P0606, pointing to control module performance issues. The problems started gradually over the past week, with no recent electrical work done. These details should help narrow down if the software reset solution that worked for your Subaru would be applicable for my case. The symptoms do sound quite similar to what you experienced with the ECU problems. Given that multiple systems are affected, a software malfunction seems increasingly likely as the root cause.

Based on those error codes and symptoms, this is definitely similar to what I experienced with my Subaru. The P0607 and P0606 codes are classic indicators of a control module performance issue, which in my case was resolved through the software update. The gradual onset of problems matches my experience exactly. In my case, the navigation system failed first, followed by other electrical malfunctions. The control unit needed a complete software reset to restore proper communication between modules. Since your vehicle has similar mileage and maintenance history to what mine had when the issue occurred, I strongly suspect youre dealing with the same software bug in the control module. The fact that your battery is relatively new also supports this theory, as it rules out power supply issues. The software reset and reprogramming process that fixed my car should work for yours too. Make sure the workshop performing the repair has experience with Subaru control unit programming and the latest software versions. Ask them to check all module communications after the update to ensure the system integration is complete. Would recommend getting this addressed soon, as the control module issues tend to cascade into other systems if left unchecked. The repair cost should be similar to what I paid for the software update service.

Thanks for the detailed info about the error codes and maintenance history. The similarities to your case with the gradual system failures and ECU problems are quite striking. Since both the error codes point to control module issues, and there are no obvious hardware problems, pursuing the software reset solution makes a lot of sense. I will definitely make sure to find a workshop that specializes in Subaru control unit programming and vehicle software updates. The reprogramming cost you mentioned seems reasonable given the complexity of the work involved. Hopefully addressing this software malfunction early will prevent any cascade failures in other systems. Quick question: After your software update was completed, did you notice any immediate improvement in system performance, or did it take some time for all systems to stabilize? Also, have you experienced any recurring ECU problems since the repair? This would help me know what to expect during my own repair process.
