Thanks for sharing your experience. I actually developed a similar window regulator issue with my 2013 Legacy last winter. The reset procedure worked temporarily, but the power window started acting up again after a few days. The window controls became increasingly unreliable until the passenger side completely stopped working. Did you end up getting it professionally repaired? Would be helpful to know the repair cost in your case. Also curious if youve had any recurring issues with the car window system since the fix. These electrical gremlins can sometimes indicate other underlying problems.

Glad to provide an update on my situation. Since seeing the mechanic, the window regulator initialization issue was completely resolved. The root cause was indeed related to the car electronics, they found a failing vehicle battery that was causing voltage fluctuations affecting the window controls. The total repair came to 290€ for replacing the battery and reprogramming the window system. The door panel didn't need removal in my case since the window motor and mechanism were working fine once proper power was restored. Its been 6 months since the fix, and the car window system has worked flawlessly. No more jerky movements or failed reset attempts. The window controls respond immediately, and I haven't had to redo the initialization procedure. My advice would be to have a professional check the entire electrical system, not just the window mechanism. Sometimes these symptoms point to broader power supply issues rather than isolated window motor problems.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Just wanted to close the loop on my window regulator situation. I took the car to a different mechanic who actually specializes in car electronics. Turns out the main power window control module was failing, not just the regulator. The repair cost came to 450€ including parts and labor. They had to remove the driver side door panel to access and replace the faulty control module. The window switch system now works perfectly, all windows respond instantly and move smoothly. Good call on checking the whole electrical system. They tested the battery and alternator while diagnosing the window controls issue. Everything else checked out fine, so it really was just the window module that needed replacement. Three weeks since the repair and zero issues with the power window operation. Definitely worth getting a second opinion from a shop that knows car electronics. Lesson learned about not just assuming the first diagnosis is always right.

Had the same window reset issue on a 2014 Subaru Outback Diesel after battery replacement. The power window system requires reinitialization when the power source gets disconnected, its a common occurrence across many Subaru models. The window switch system needs a specific reset sequence: Hold the window control in the up position for 3 seconds after the window reaches the top, then hold it down until fully open, and up again until closed. Repeat this process for each affected window. If the reset procedure fails, there could be more complex car electronics issues. In my case, the window regulator motor had excessive wear, requiring replacement. The original problem emerged after routine battery service, but the underlying window switch mechanism was already failing. The car window system may need professional diagnosis if: Multiple windows stop working simultaneously, Strange noises come from the mechanism, Windows move slower than usual, Reset procedure fails repeatedly This is generally not a severe repair when caught early, but ignoring it can lead to complete window mechanism failure.
