Suburban diesel mixture preparation error

I'm having issues with my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban diesel. It has around 113340 km on it. The engine seems to be suffering from a mixture preparation error. The check engine light is on, engine power is noticeably reduced, and it runs quite rough. I also experience jerking during acceleration and occasional stalling at idle. I checked the intake manifold and throttle body for any obvious obstructions, but everything seems normal. Could a defective mass airflow sensor be the culprit?

Summary of the thread

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban diesel is experiencing a mixture preparation error, indicated by a check engine light, reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and occasional stalling. Initial checks of the intake manifold and throttle body showed no obstructions. A defective mass airflow sensor was considered as a potential cause. However, after further investigation, a defective fuel injector was identified as the root cause, requiring professional repair.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old BMW 3 series, although that was a gasoline engine. Reduced power, rough running, and the check engine light. In my case, it turned out to be a defective fuel injector. Have you checked your fuel injection system at all?

Thank you for your input. I haven't specifically investigated the fuel injection system yet. Is there a way to test the injectors without specialized equipment? Or is it something that typically requires a visit to a workshop?

Testing injectors accurately usually requires specialized tools. A resistance test can give you a basic idea, but it's not definitive. Given your symptoms, especially the stalling and jerking, a defective injector is quite possible. A visit to a workshop might be unavoidable for a proper diagnosis. Good luck.

I appreciate the advice. It appears you were correct; I took the Suburban to a workshop, and they confirmed a defective injector was causing the mixture preparation issue. Repair cost was 515€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
