Sunny Intake Manifold Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Nissan Sunny diesel was experiencing jerking during acceleration, power loss, stalling, a rough-running engine, and a strong exhaust odor, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause was an intake manifold leak. Another owner with similar issues suggested inspecting the intake manifold and vacuum lines for cracks or leaks. After consulting a mechanic, the intake manifold was replaced, resolving the symptoms and restoring smooth operation.

How did you identify the intake manifold as the problem? Did you see cracks or discoloration? Did you try any temporary repairs before replacing it?

The intake manifold showed scorching and minor cracks upon inspection. I didn't try any temporary fixes because of the risk of engine damage. I recommend a professional inspection and replacement if needed. Visit a workshop.

Thanks for the help confirming my suspicions. I consulted a mechanic who agreed about the defective intake manifold. It was replaced with gaskets and seals for 1180€. The symptoms are gone, and the car runs smoothly again.

I'm familiar with this. I have a Sunny as well. The jerking and check engine light point to the intake manifold, maybe the manifold sensor too. Have you checked for engine misfire? In my case, the intake manifold was the problem. Inspect all vacuum lines connected to it; they can crack and cause vacuum leaks.
