Sunny rough cold starts
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Nissan Sunny diesel with 200k km is experiencing rough cold starts, an illuminated engine management light, and increased fuel consumption. The error code points to a potential issue with the PTC heater. A similar case with a Renault Megane suggests that a defective electric auxiliary heater could cause these symptoms. After taking the car to a workshop, the heater was confirmed as the issue, and repairing it resolved the problems.

Temperature control seems fine otherwise. Just the cold start issues. So, you reckon the heater could really mess with the engine running like that?

Well, on my Megane, the defective heater was definitely the culprit. The engine management system was going haywire trying to compensate. I'd say get it checked by a workshop. Better safe than sorry and it might save you a lot of fuel in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop as you suggested. Turns out the electric auxiliary heater was indeed defective. Repair cost me about 350€. Runs like new now!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane, although yours is a Nissan. Same symptoms - rough starts, error codes related to auxiliary heating, and the fuel gauge dropping faster than usual. Could it be the electric auxiliary heater causing your woes too? Has the temperature control been acting up?
