Sunroof on 2011 BMW X6 Diesel not working - tips wanted
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The sunroof on a 2011 BMW X6 Diesel is not functioning, and a warning light is present on the speedometer. The issue might be due to incorrect adjustment of the sunroof. A similar problem was resolved by adjusting and coding the sunroof, costing around €75. However, there is also a possibility of a more complex issue requiring part replacement, which would necessitate a visit to a mechanic.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply, really great. So if it's a part that needs replacing, I don't have much choice but to go to the garage. Can I just remember how much you had to budget for the repair? Had any other issues or complications come up afterwards? Thank you very much and safe driving!

Hi there, no problem! It's always stupid with things like that. My trunk lid was pretty expensive because the whole thing had to be replaced. But... ah, I just realized, I forgot to mention it! After I went to the mechanic, they actually solved the problem with the sunroof. Believe it or not, the sunroof wasn't adjusted correctly. It only cost €75 because they also coded the vehicle. That's less than I initially thought. Since then it's actually been going quite well, no further questions or complications have arisen. I hope you have good luck there too! Take care and beware of the warning lights!

Hey, thanks for the helpful info. That kind of reassures me to hear that your sunroof issue was related to the coding and it wasn't too expensive. Hopefully I'll have the same luck. Really wish it's just a minor issue and won't cost me too much. Thanks for the tip and have a good trip, take care!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 3 Series E91 2010 with a panoramic roof, which is what I would call a larger sunroof. In my case, unfortunately, a plastic part in the sunroof mechanism was broken. Although there was a repair kit from the manufacturer, everything had to be dismantled to expose the entire mechanism. I ended up with a bill of 1500 euros, but the labor was the biggest item. Since then I've had no more problems, the only important thing is that the workshop said not to operate the sunroof in very cold outside temperatures.

Hey, I can totally understand your annoyance. I drive a 2014 BMW X3 and had a similar problem some time ago. My damn trunk lid wouldn't open or close anymore. The warning light also went crazy. Like you, I initially assumed that the flap just needed to be reinitialized. However, it turned out that the case was more complicated. There was actually a technical problem and the trunk drive had to be completely replaced. Not a minor procedure, but still better than a permanently defective trunk. It's difficult to say exactly whether your problem is the same, but in my experience it could be that you also need to replace a part. If I were you, I would definitely have the car checked at the garage, as stupid as it is. Good luck and hopefully you'll get it sorted quickly!
